Lookout Inn Tropical Update |
|||||||||||||||||
| Hello to all of our friends and family, We have had a great season so far with wonderful guests and not so bad weather. May, June and July was wet but the rest of the season has been very beautiful. So far we have received 183 inches of rain with still 100 inches more to fall. I enjoy the off season more because it's a little cooler and a little cloudy, but I still have a hard time when it rains 8 inches in less than 3 hours. This is the time of year the young Scarlet Macaws are off their nests and are with the adults. We have 50 to 85 macaws almost daily screaming and flying through the air around the area and very close to the Inn. Last week a guest from Holland counted 50 in one of our trees. The Tyra is visiting us eating banana's and chasing the Green Iguana's in the trees. The Tyra is a black mammal that looks like a large buffed mink or wolverine but all black, a ferocious creature here on the edge of the rainforest. There are also the White Face Monkey's still swinging around the place. The National Save the Sea Turtle Foundation is next door and working hard. They have collected over 13,000 eggs for their hatchery and are releasing baby turtles almost daily. They are here every year from May through December, check out their website at: www.savetheseaturtle.org Between the months of December and April we have the great Humpback Whales and Pilot Whales swimming by out in front of the Inn and only 500 meters off shore. The Golfo Dulce attracts these giants of the sea for birthing and possibly breeding. We also have lots of Dolphins and for the last 2 years the huge Whale Sharks have been seen in the Gulf. This is the time of year when we have very little rain and is a bit hotter. Remember the GREEN FLASH some of you were fortunate to witness from the upper deck? From Christmas to about March is the best time to observe this spectacular phenomenon. Also, the fishing at this time is the best with lots of Yellow Fin Tuna and Mahi Mahi . For the sportsman, Sailfish and Marlin are being caught and released off shore at record size. The captain and owner of a 29 foot Stamas offshore fishing boat stay with us for five months and fish 5 days a week, so there is lots of sushi and fish fry's going on around here. Check out their website for more information and reservations at: www.fishosa.com Gilberto , is our Costa Rican chef who prepares fresh meals for the meat or vegetarian lovers along with daily made fresh bread and deserts. Our new neighbor to the west of us has started an organic farm with fresh eggs and veggies, tropical fruit trees, papaya, banana's, pineapple and some fruits I can't pronounce, but are so delicious. We are planning our Annual Pig Roast for our New Year's Eve celebration so get your reservations in early. You can contact Wendy at: reservations@lookout-inn.com.
